Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (2317-TW) is considering the development of low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite technologies and ground receiving stations in the next three years, according to Hon Hai Chairman Young Liu.
“We might see Hon Hai’s satellites in the sky next year,” Liu said on Tuesday (May 31) at a shareholders’ meeting. Hon Hai is also actively laying out metaverse-related cloud services and other key components.
Companies related to Hon Hai, including CyberTAN Technology Inc. (3062-TW), Microelectronics Technology Inc. (2314-TW) and Innolux Corp. (3481-TW) and more, also have a presence in LEO satellite technologies. On the other hand, Zhong Yang Technology Co. (6668-TW) has been actively developing AR/VR lens applications in recent years.
According to Liu, beyond fifth-generation (B5G) communication is the key project in the next three years. Hon Hai has officially invested in the research and development of LEO satellite technologies, including independent research and development of LEO communication payload and self-built ground receiving station. Hon Hai Research Institute will coordinate the design.
In addition, Liu said, Hon Hai is also actively laying out applications for the metaverse. By expanding the development of its platform, the company plans to extend Hon Hai’s existing private cloud and edge experience and capabilities to build the cloud service capacity of the metaverse. The company will also focus on AR/VR key components and provide complete machine design and one-stop services.
Hon Hai has also invested in XSPACE and continues to optimize GOXR and PartyOn. It has also invested in Varjo, a high-resolution green VR/MR terminal manufacturer, to expand its share in the metaverse market.
